About

Aida was born and grew up in Kazan. It was Aida’s mother, the choirmaster Laylya Ildarovna who gave Aida her first music lessons and inspired her to be an opera singer. Later, Aida went on to study at the Nuremberg University of Music and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna; subsequently joining the ensemble at the Wiener Staatsoper where she was a member from 2013 -2016. Aida played the role of Lily Pons in the feature film Florence Foster Jenkins, and is an ‘Honoured Artist of the Republic of Tartarstan’.

‘One of the most exciting opera divas of today and tomorrow’.

What can we add to this impressive quote by Placido Domingo?  We are truly excited to present star-soprano Aida for the first time to the Belgian audience at Bozar Brussels in our ‘Opera Stars Series’, a series of recitals with the top opera voices of the world.

Depth, warmth, and tenderness make Aida Garifullina’s voice unmistakable. Its execution is one of taste, style, restraint, and severity in its emotionality. These qualities, combined with her natural beauty, youth, and charm cast her as one of the most enchanting figures in opera today.

Russian soprano Aida Garifullina was the winner of the 2013 Operalia Competition. Aida’s stunning self-titled debut album was released globally by Decca Records in February 2017 to unanimous critical acclaim and has since been awarded a prestigious ECHO Klassik award. Aida’s recent highlights include performances at the opening and closing ceremonies of The World Cup in Russia and at the 2018 Concert de Paris for Bastille Day, both events being broadcast live on television to millions worldwide. Last season also saw sensational debuts at Staatsoper Berlin in a new Tcherniakov production of Mussorgsky’s Bethrothal in a Monastery conducted by Daniel Barenboim, and at the Metropolitan Opera in Don Giovanni. Aida also joined conductor Long Yu for special performances of Carmina Burana in Shanghai and at the Forbidden City in Beijing.  In 2019/20, Aida will made anticipated debuts at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in La Bohème and at the Bayersiche Staatsoper in L’elisir d’amore and will return to the Wiener Staatsoper for role debuts as Mimì in La bohème and Violetta Valéry in La Traviata. On the concert platform, Aida will give solo gala concerts at the Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires and across Russia, a highlight of Aida’s concert schedule will be the Last of the BBC Proms at Hyde Park in London. Looking further ahead, Aida will return to the Opéra national de Paris, Metropolitan Opera, Staatsoper Berlin, and Liceu Barcelona, alongside concerts, galas, recitals, festivals, and TV broadcasts throughout Europe and beyond.

…the beauty of her singing voice blows me away. kcrw.com
When she appears, it seems that a great hurricane comes over the stage; her voice is magnificent, from the first notes to the last short sincere prayer in the end. Elena Habermann in Online Merker
